reborn: a mirror

When we moved into our house last year, we discovered that the previous owner left stuff behind. Quite a bit of stuff actually.

We gave away a selection of things to my mom (Outdoor decorations! A patio set! Adirondack chairs!) and other stuff went to our basement or other places in the house.

One thing we moved was this big mirror because I had a mirror from my storage unit I wanted to use above our one fireplace. And it worked out because when we took down the mounted tv left behind in our bedroom, the mount had been shoddily painted around, leaving a huge jewel-tone purple patch. So up the mirror went.

But as our bedroom continues to get organized, the mirror doesn’t fit where it is and I decided to move it (also meaning I have to find another way to cover the purple paint.) I want to keep using it in the bedroom, but the frame was painted a shiny black, some of which ended up on the mirror itself, and it made it feel too heavy.

One thing I’ve come to rely on is Rub’n Buff’s wax metallic finish in antique gold. I’ve used this to freshen up a few other things and I really like how it adds character. I’ve used a paintbrush for smaller, smoother items. For this mirror frame, because of the grooves and detailing, I took an old washcloth, applied the finish to frame, and worked it in.

I now have to move the wire hanger on the back because I want the mirror to hang vertical. However, it did pass inspection (last frame.)
