reuse: thrill of the hunt
Combing through Facebook marketplace and buy nothing groups and thrift stores can be, let’s just say, a lot. In the grand scheme of life, this is incredibly small potatoes, but it always makes me want to cave and just order what I need.
And I almost did this week. We’re having guests for the next few weekends and I have been looking for additional storage so I can clean up our guest space. I’ve been spending the last few weeks looking for shelving to fit a narrow space and it was not happening. And so, I prepared myself to get a cheap and narrow cube unit for books and other things lying around.
But.
Lo and behold.
I found on Facebook marketplace a set of modular cubes. The perfect size for the space. And they were Palaset cubes by Ristomatti Ratia for Treston Oy Finland. Ratia developed the Palaset cubes for Finnish furniture company, Treston, in the 1970s as a modular units to serve many purposes. The idea was to make them functional for any space and be able to move and change them up as needs and space changed. The units are made of polystyrene and were painted. The condition of the ones are got is okay, but will require a little muscle to get them cleaned up. (And that’s fine with me.)
I think I’m going to have a hard time not turning Palaset cubes into a niche collecting mission.
